For this project we transformed a traditional house that was built in an enviable location in Sheffield, but internally was rather dated in its design.
The client wanted to breathe new life into the existing property by redesigning the rear of the house and its connection to the garden. There was also a desire to extend the house to enable better use of space, with a lighter and larger open-plan living.
In addition to the stunning single-storey rear extension and double-storey side extension, we reworked the internal layout, using minimal framed glazing to add light and increase the feeling of space. The renovations included stunning bespoke SieMatic kitchen designed and fitted by my fathers heart, a fantastic home cinema room produced by Bespoke Home Cinemas and beautiful parquetry thanks to Greyspace Flooring. Classic Crittal doors add timeless charm and ensure natural light fills every room.
The project combines the appeal of a historic home with a contemporary extension, the result is an enviable state of the art home that is perfect for modern family life.
This was a great project to work on but one that came with a set of very specific challenges. Not only was there the site’s past, which everybody was determined had to be preserved, but there was also the fact that we had to create two family homes in what is actually quite a small space. We came up with a design that filled all Nik and Jon’s wishes, a brilliantly contemporary pair of properties that also pays tribute to the story of the site and, through the use of materials, to the bigger story of Sheffield’s industrial heritage.
The 80-metre dam, which once provided power for the corn mill, has also been cleaned and restored, providing a haven for kingfishers and other wildlife.
