Our client brief for this project was to connect the existing partially completed barn conversion to the old agricultural shed and create a super-luxury family home. The design ethos was simple: create a central feature space or ‘family hub’ in the main barn with more domestic spaces feeding off of this space.
The main design concern was the scale of the barn and how to make it feel homely and cosy. The barn also had wonderful features such as ‘arrow slit’ windows that were retained and enhanced to ensure the new barn paid homage to its past.
The main family space blends contemporary features such as polished concrete floors and work tops with more traditional features such as a painted farmhouse kitchen and natural oak stairs and walkways.
The end result is a house that is both contemporary and traditional at the same time- the materials are fused together with timber, lead and stone with rich and sumptuous patterns to create something that is warm and cosy yet dramatic too.
